Saturday 6th to Sunday 7th OctoberhyphenVarious village locations

The HoVEC Autumn Festival gives Horsmonden the opportunity to celebrate Harvest and the change of season across the beautiful countryside that surrounds our village.

The festival is a series of events that take place at various venues around the village the second weekend in October. The area around Horsmonden is famous for its many apple farms and the Autumn Festival encourages people to get out into the countryside and have fun!

The Autumn Festival is held in partnership with the village churches and is supported by other community groups such as the Social Club, the School and Kindergarten. In 2017, we were also pleased to be able to support CLIC Sargent, a charity supporting children and young people with cancer, through a fundraising coffee morning event held at the social club.

The 2018 programme of events ran as follows:

HoVEC Scarecrow Competition

Our second Scarecrow competition saw a high level of interest, with many weird and wonderful scarecrows adorning the village green. Take a look at our gallery for pictures of last year’s entries and look out for the new ones which will follow soon!

This year the categories were:

- Childrens, under 16 years

- Families and individuals over 16 years

- Clubs, Societies and businesses.

Free entry.

Petting Farm

On the morning of the judging, the Social Club was open for refreshments and the HoVEC sponsored petting farm was on the village green for to all to enjoy.

Harvest Display and Church Tower visits.

On Sunday 7th October, St Margaret’s Church organised a guided walk from the Green, meeting at 9.30am. The church opened its tower to visitors and put on a wonderful Harvest celebration display in the church. Refreshments were also be available to visitors over the weekend.

Scarecrow Trail

The Scarecrow trail was a fun walk through Spriver's put together in conjunction with Kate Mills and the National Trust warden. This provided a guided walk with lots of interesting information about Spriver's and its relationship with our beautiful village.

If you are interested in knowing more about the Autumn Festival or would like to get involved in next year’s event, please contact HoVEC committee member Kate Mills on 01892 722221.
